Love Songs To Myself mixed media mixtape art, 2021

“Love Songs To Myself: A Mixtape” is my newest work and a visual reminder to be responsible for your own happiness in life. It is my submission for the December 2021 group art show "The Mixtape Show" at the ArtBar in Aurora, IL (western Chicago suburb).
This is probably the last major piece I’ll finish in 2021 (but I have LOTS of pots already simmering on the stove for next year, so hang around ). I started the year with "You Give Me Butterflies" posted earlier on Behance in 2021. I think you’ll agree that I’m “unwinding” a bit (pardon the tape pun).
This is truly a mixed media piece. The “hair” is actual 1/8 inch cassette tape that I gleefully ripped out of a thrift store tape, and lightly sprayed with metallic gold paint for highlights. There’s a little hot pink color in there, too. The “CD” is metallic silver card stock with a hologram effect finish created simply with markers. I love how it changes in different lighting; sometimes it even appears almost solid black in low light. Since this is the first showing in Aurora, IL I added a little local significance… the orange and lavender earring drops are two pieces of tissue paper confetti shot from a confetti cannon, that I picked up off the ground at the Back The Vax event held there in July 2021.
The tattoos repeat a few motifs from works created in 2020 and 2021. In respect for the work that brought me here, and in an effort to build on it and connect/create new symbols for next year.
