A few weeks ago I was looking for a good scene in order to get some experience with redshift. So I built an old fashioned switch engine, the german V60. After working with it quite some time in different scenes and light situations I thought of a way to add a more hyper realistic feeling. So I came up with the idea of an air train...
The modelling was done in Cinema 4D R25. The worn look of the cowling is not only created by the shaders I used, but also by modelling techniques. It doesn´t raise the polycount too much and allows to use pretty simple shaders. The Douglas C54 skymaster inspired the wings with the four engines and the fin.
Redshift with its curvature map allows to create materials that look pretty worn without editing the UVs. The wings and the engines though need thousands of rivets, which were painted directly on the object using BodyPaint.
The environment is built with assets from Quixel.com. They come with a classical material, which can be changed easily into a redshift shader.
