Package Design - Tigris

Package Design
Project Brief
This project required the creation of a conceptually engaging and visually appropriate package design solution for the brand, Tigris, I created in the IOW 300.2 corporate identity project. The essence of the brand should be captured in the package designs, the visual language is especially crucial in translating the mood and tone from the corporate identity into the package designs.

The final package designs were required to be extendable, meaning that they should be able to show a range of variants within the brand family, this required at least three polished elements to establish a distinction between the variants. Clearly indicating the differences within the range. Considering the format of the package design carefully, crafting a usable and appropriate package design fitting to my brand and target audience was very important.

After crafting the flat designs of the package designs, we were tasked with using our knowledge to create crafted 3D versions within Cinema 4D as rendered and realistic presentations of our final package designs.

Design Strategy

In order to create a conceptually engaging package design I had to go back to the project created in IOW 300.2 and examine all aspects of the established brand, such as the target audience, the mood and tone of the brand, and the product provided by the brand. These were all crucial factors to consider when I started conceptualising my package designs.

I was creating luxury package designs for people looking to buy luxury wool products, therefore my target audience was for adults, the mood and tone for my brand was very ominous, luxurious and confident and that was exactly what I wanted my package designs to translate. As the brand originated from Mesopotamian times, it was very important to use Mesopotamia as inspiration for my package designs, therefore I explored Mesopotamian architecture and structural establishments to inspire my package designs. I created a simple open folding box with triangular shapes to represent the complexity and beauty that originated from Mesopotamian times.

After the creation of the box and finalising the flat designs, final renders were created and crafted in Cinema 4D to allow outsiders to see the package designs in their full glory in their perfectly crafted compositions.

Initial layouts and test layouts
In this project layouts and compositions were crucial to the advertising of the brand, therefore composition sketches and test compositions in cinema 4D was crucial to the development of the final boards.
Style Guide

Luxury in Luxury
Unshrouded by time, Tigris has offered luxury wool to the Emperors and Empresses of Mesopotamian decent, developing throughout centuries to provide luxurious wool products to our modern monarchies. Tigris strives toward giving every modern monarch a complete luxurious experience, from the purchase, packaging and then the product. Tigris created a package design very unique to the brand, ensuring that the customers feel valued and spoiled every single step of the way.
Colourful Riches
In the package design process I used the colour palette generate in IOW 300.2 to create the colour palette to be used in this package design project. Using distinctive colours to separate from each variant in the brand family.
Textures
A crucial part in the colour usage in how the colours will translate on the material / texture that will be used, and in this case it is a soft suade, meaning that when brushed to one side the colour will be darker.
The Ruling Sphinx
The logo will be used on the package designs to promote the brand and to make the brand memorable in it's design.
Symbolic Patterns
Sumerian symbols have been the way Mesopotamian way of communicating through writing. The sybols inspired these patterns as each one of these symbols represent a sacred object of being in Mesopotamian belief. In honouring these Mesopotamian beliefs these symbols will appear on the package designs as a form of respect and as a way of identifying the variants along with their colours.
Iconic
As a final method of distinction between the different variants within the brand, an icon will be representing each. Tigris has three different categories of products, each containing their own style, personality and type of wool.
Down To The Roots
Understanding the flat design is critical to the package design, ensuring that all the right information is in the right place and that the box is crafted and folded in the correct manner.
Bold and Confident
This package design has a sleek and sophisticated style, with bold elements, colours and textures to separate Tigris from the rest as we firmly believe that luxury should be sold in luxury. This package design is set apart with it's main element of beautifully embossed designs, demanding the package designs as bold and confident.
This embossed effect is used to elevate the design without taking away from the sleek and sophisticated design, with this embossed element the packaging maintains a luxurious and exclusive look.
These boxes fold open with the triangular top to reveal the luxurious wool product. The inside material consists of a soft suade to protect the product from any damage, hooks or tears. Each category of packaging is symbolised by their own unique icon, pattern and colour, this is representative on all packaging, including the inside.
The dynamic of the box design is inspired by Mesopotamian architecture, Mesopotamian structures and architectural sophistication which played a big role in constructing the package designs. The complex yet simple open folded box with triangular shapes, represent the origins of Tigris as a luxurious and fashionable brand.
