IOW100.4 Color Harmonies A

IOW 100.4 Color Harmonies A

Brief summary:
This project aimed to develop our sensitivity towards creating successful, pleasing and effective color combinations by developing our understanding of color contrasts, schemes and the changing nature of color temperatures. We had to apply our knowledge from color theory, color fundamentals and color interaction to create successful and captivating color solutions. This project aimed to get us to nurture the process of experimentation and exploration as a means of developing a solid color sense. We developed sensitivity for combining and developing effective color palettes. We also developed an understanding of color harmonies and the effective use of color schemes. We learnt that a single color can only function in relation to the colors surrounding it. We needed to comprehend the ever-changing nature and interaction of color and create a better understanding of color values and the important effect these have on the viewer. We had a better understanding of how color values can be used to create a color hierarchy and a sense of depth. We had a better understanding of color temperature and how it relates to the color wheel. And finally we had to show a better understanding and insight into local and optical colors.

Deliverables:
> Color contrast: On A3 fabriano paper, recreate the figures given. Create 5 x 5 cm blocks and fill in the design with different colors to create contrast. There are different types of contrast:
- contrast of line
- contrast of light and dark
- contrast of saturation
- contrast of warm and cool
- simultaneous contrast
- contrast of extension
> Color schemes: On A4 fabriano paper, recreate the figures given, each must be 7 x 7 cm. Assign each with a different color scheme. The different color schemes are:
- complimentary
- analogous
- split-complimentary
- triadic

Design strategy:
I started off by going back to the theory we learnt in color theory, to familiarize myself with color and the way color works. I then took notes for this project to help me with the activities and completion of part one of this project. I followed instructions and referred back to my notes to complete the activities, focusing and experimenting with color contrasts and schemes.
