Tangible Media Prototype (2021)

This Major Project Brief builds on the Design Research Proposal investigations. My team and I have investigated the field of tangible media and current issues in the design of tangible media projects. Thus, using the identified design theme of 'rotation, we designed and prototyped a tangible artefact using the prompt: "How can we design a meaningful, tangible media experience by designing and making an interactive lantern?"

With our project 'RE:MIND', users are able to reminisce on their most important photos and memories through the medium of film. The film can be inserted into a spinnable lantern to encourage greater interactivity than simply flicking through photos as normalised in phones. Our target audience focused primarily on older audiences. Specifically, with COVID-19, continuous restrictions for age care home and hospital visits has left this age group feeling lonely. Thus, the lantern aims to provide a physical light of hope where users can look over their most cherished memories.
