ILL 1.5 TRANSLATING FORM TO COLOUR

ILL 1.5 TRANSLATING FORM TO COLOUR

BRIEF SUMMARY

In previous tasks we used one colour to shade or different objects which ended up being very easy and understandable because of the predictable tonal variations (ie. from light to shadow). This task push us to build on our knowledge of all the previous principles we had been using by introducing colour. We were instructed to create believable and realistic colour pencil renderings by figuring out which colours work by being layered on top of one another and which ones work best alone (effects include but are not limited to: light and shadow interaction, 'colour bounce', highlights, reflections, refraction, caustics, form/cast/occlusion shadows, radiosity, transmitted light and surface scattering on objects such as glass, white porcelain, stainless steel, plants, fruits and vegetables). Colour pencils and gouache are mediums that take a lot of practice and skill to perfect and as we have been told it is very important to retain the skills and knowledge we have been taught about them for further reference.

RATIONALE

I enjoyed this project because it was something brand new and I could really explore the different colour combinations, it was challenging but I tried to create the most realistic colour renderings I could. Trying to capture the luminosity of the back lighting going through the sliced fruit was definitely the hardest part for me.
