ILL 1.4 PERCEPTUAL PRINCIPLES & MEDIA 3: (PLAY OF LIGHT)

BRIEF SUMMARY

In this project we learnt about the theory of light and the different principles to capturing light. We formed a deeper understanding of the perception of edges, shape, negative spaces, tonal contrast, light and shadow.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS AND DELIVERABLES

1) Drawing of sphere. (A4, Graphite, 15 min)
2) 4x Inventory techniques on 3D shapes. (A3, Graphite)
3) Theory of light lecture notes.
4) Cone, cylinder, skeletal sphere. (1 of each shape built in triplex)
5) 2x Atomic string warm up exercises. (One heavy, one light)
6) Grounded cone & sphere. (A4 on A3)
7) 3x Cone and cylinder drawings with different mark making techniques, (Structural hatching, continuous tonal shading, vertical         hatching)
8) 2x Atomic string warm up exercises. (One heavy, one light)
9) Drawing of a cone, cylinder, sphere. (A3, Graphite)
10) Tracing paper layover labelling of drawing in no.9.
11) Drawing of glass showing refraction.
12) Play of light synthesis drawing with cone, cylinder, sphere, glass, porcelain object.
13) Drawing of sphere, cylinder, cone. (A3, Brown paper and brown pencils)
14) Play of light synthesis drawing with seven objects. (Cone, cylinder, sphere, glass, porcelain object and any other two objects)

RATIONALE

This project was very time consuming but seeing how refraction works was pretty interesting, I really tried my best to portray the transparency in the glass that I was drawing and the solidness yet subtleness of the porcelain object, even though this was a hard task to do I was proud of my final deliverables.
