ILL 1.1 PERCEPTUAL PRINCIPLES & MEDIA 1 - (LINE)

BRIEF SUMMARY

This project introduced us to elements and principles of perceptual drawing. Focussing on the characteristic relationships of marks, lines, edges, shape, positive/ negative spaces, textures and contrasts. This task showed us how to use the Betty Edwards' method to  awaken the "right" side of our brain to stop drawing what we think we see and learn to start drawing what we actually see.

RATIONALE

At first I thought this project was a little to simple and useless, but as we went into depth on the specific techniques (ie. learning to draw perfect ellipses, or the hack of turning your picture upside down) I soon found it to be very helpful through out the year to help me get out of "just" drawing and learning of to use different parts of my brain to actually draw what I see. Looking back I actually learnt a lot from this first project.
