The Library of Babel: an artist's book
This is a french-door book structure of my interpretation of Jorge Luis Borges's The Library of Babel. In a french-door structure, the form has two "doors," or sides from which the viewer can read--either one at a time or simultaneously--creating a dynamic reading experience. I also decided to make the structure a hexagonal shape since hexagons are symbolic to the story.
Excerpts from The Library of Babel are included in the book with my additional "alterations" made in orange text. This was a outlet for me to make an allusive (and illusive) story visual and somewhat concrete. Text and minimalist forms are juxtaposed with personal photographs trying to articulate the "library," or micro/macro universe that Borges describes so poetically.
