PROSPECTOR
Adobe 3D Substance Painter, Stager with Illustrator/Photoshop
In the Adobe Substance 3D challenge 'The Great ShoeCase' [they had me at the title;] I saw a really good opportunity to get to know Painter a little better whilst at the same time gaining my first exposure to Stager and it’s capabilities.
INSPIRATION - CONCEPT
For my design ‘Prospector' I took inspiration from the prospecting [gold rush] era of the late 1840s where the promise of discoverable fortunes brought about large scale geographic migration resulting in a coming together of societies and as a consequence, a sharing of cultures, ideas and technology.

I wanted to embody this melting pot of ideas and to create a luxury design combining classic and streetwear aesthetics incorporating bold design elements through contrasting pattern, material and texture. Above all I wanted a comfortable and performant shoe that would age and serve the owner well over time. A shoe suited to outdoor exploration marrying robust and utilitarian materials of this historic period with more modern production techniques and materials. In Materials and features such as leather/suede, corduroy, brogue, denim studs, weaved wool and lizard skin (faux of course) in conjunction with technical plastics/elastomers I have tried to devise a Colour & Material design with a rugged soul, adventurous spirit and sense of luxury unashamedly flaunted through a splashed gold paint motif.

In this case, gold is used as a metaphor for the thing that each of us may value the most. After all, not everything that glitters is gold and perhaps the richest of all treasures is already in our possession!

X Marks the Spot!
