Bathing in the Ganges
The Ganges carries an immense cultural and religious  meaning for Hindus of every region and every sectarian persuasion. Hindu people believe the river Ganges to be sacred and holy, and many make the pilgrimage to the city of Varanasi to wash away their sins in the water. Up and down the ghats, all day long, but especially in the early morning hours you can see endless course of pilgrims, immense crowd of devotees, of all ages, ranks, bathing in the sacred river or praying by its edge.
Some of these people are old and feeble, weary with long journeys of life, saddened from losses and troubles. Yet, there they stand, in the cold water,  with dripping garments, clincing to their thin or aged limps, while they eagerly mutter their prayers.
A modern Hindu author writes, "When a pilgrim dives into the sacred waters go the Ganges, he feels the thrill of plunging into the waters go all the rivers of India" this one river concentrates the sanctity of all India's sacred rivers. For Hindus pilgrims nothing can compares with bathing in the Ganges, especially at a great tirtha such as Kashi.
