Renewables
Renewable energy is energy that is collected from renewable resources, such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, waves, organic material and geothermal heat.

Renewable energy technologies help minimizing carbon pollution and reducing our environmental footprint. Their electricity production has been on the rise worldwide in the last few years.

In the diamond plot below, every diamond represents the electricity produced from renewable sources by a country or area in 2017 (in GWh), broken down by type of energy. The higher an area's position, the larger its production.

The timelines below represent the global trends of electricity generation from 2000 to 2017. As their purpose is to show only patterns and trends, each timeline uses a different scale, therefore their magnitudes should not be compared one another.

You'll be able to choose a country and highlight its position in the diamond plot for each type of renewable energy.
The data was produced by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
