In the scope of the discipline of Multimedia in the Bachelor of Design in IADE Creative University, we were challenged to create a 2 minute video, inspired on a Portuguese poet.
In our case, the poet was Teixeira de Pascoaes, and the quote our project is about is the following:
O homem foge da sua sombra anterior para a sua luz futura.
Which translates to
The Man flees from his former shadow to his future light.
In the arcade style video, we see a man running horizontally, with his Life Bar, represented by hearts, full, and with no stars to his name.
He then finds himself in front of some steps which he has the option to jump over them, or go under them.He chooses to jump over them, overtaking the word ANSIEDADE, which translates to Anxiety. When he overtakes that word, he loses a heart, but gains a star to his name.He immediately overtakes the word stress as well, but that takes a toll on him, when he is confronted by the word PRESSURE.
He seems to be contemplating if it's worth the try, as he sees that his life bar keeps decreasing while he still hasn't got that many stars to his name.
After contemplating for a bit, he takes a leap of faith and goes for the run, which finally leads him to a ladder.

When he reaches the top of the ladder, the ambience seems to be a lot lighter, with the sky lighting up, the clouds disappearing and more ladders to climb, which are seemingly an easier way to get up than to jump around.
He proceeds to collect golden words, like Conquistas and Vitórias(Conquers and Victories), collecting now a total of 4 stars, having now the option of collecting a heart, increasing his Life Bar, taking a short cut to the finish line.
Instead, the man decides to go down a step to collect the word AMIZADES(Friendships), before he climbs the last ladder to the finishing goal.
When he finally arrives to the finishing goal, his last Life bar finishes, and it's Game Over.

The man finishes the game with all the possible stars he could get, and to end, we get a last message:

The Man flees from his former shadow to his future light.

However, the truth is that, regardless of which path we choose, whether the darkest and more horizontal, or the one that forces us to overcome obstacles but includes more rewards, at the end, we all reach the same destination: "GAME OVER".
It is up to each player with how many stars he wants to reach the final goal.
