50 X 60 cms     I     Acrylic on Canvas Board
Here I have depicted an Indian village woman sitting at her doorstep. Her home desperately in need of a coat of fresh paint. She sits with her gaze focused on something in the distance. Probably lost in thought. Her clothes are simple and basic, as is the jewelry she wears. The vibrant colors of her clothing indicate she is a married woman as widows tend to wear white or pale colors. Her jewels, though few, are of prime importance embodying her femininity and her financial status within her society. They are also her security and will serve her well in her time of need. Her hardened bare feet have travelled long distances for the basics which we take for granted. Yet she seems satisfied with life and grateful for the roof over her head.
This acrylic painting tells its own story. It has been done on a canvas panel executed primarily with a palette knife while using brush work for the finer details.
