Occupational Therapy Equipment
Seatbelt Assist

Working with occupational therapy experts, I began constructing vehicle aids for people struggling to get in and out of vehicles due to many chronic pains, such as back
injuries or arthritis
I followed my process through until I came across the seatbelt assist, a device that hung over you shoulder to pull your seatbelt across. This prevented the person to cause pain by trying to stretch around to find where their seatbelts are. This also encourages those who struggle with grabbing their seatbelts, to actually wear them, even just for short distances like shooting down to the end of the road

What I got out of this project was a good understanding of working with other professionals to produce for a client. I learnt great communication skills and I can now construct interviews to find information to formulate my process

First 3D printed prototype

The final prototype was constructed out of a 3D printer. This way, the device is able to clip onto any existing seatbelt in any brand vehicle without the need of meddling with
the seatbelts

The modelled parts are tied to a thin rope attached to a fabric handle. This is draped over the seat before entering the vehicle. Then, once you are seated, the handle is already by you side, within reach
