Project 6: The Neo-Plastic: Expansive Color & Space

This project used elements from a previous project, Mondrian, combined with the De Stijl movement and one of Italo Calvino's "Invisible Cities" to create an inhabitable space. Cutting three sections through my Mondrian (Project 3) model provided locators for walls and floorplanes. Taking into account these locators and the primary themes of my Invisible City (Octavia)--certainty, airiness, and suspension--I decided to create a space suspended off the side of a cliff that was very light and open. I provided for this feeling by creating a contour model and making a majority of the space double-height with lots of windows. The axonometric, plans, sections, and elevations for this project really helped me get the feel of technical drawing of buildings.
