Tinyport — concept art and animation

Game Design
Recently, we had the opportunity to try our hand at creating
concept art and animation for a platformer game.

These are the two main dudes:

This big fellow on the right was supposed to be the main character initially, and the second one was supposed to be one of his enemies. Then, we saw that they looked cool as main characters and now they are in one team.

The game tells the story of how Big Bass shrink to a miniature size.
Usual objects around the characters are huge now.
There’s a level where the player has to run away from the cat in the kitchen
.
This dude reminded us of bikers,
so we gave him one of the biker names

We decide to call him
by some Indian name

We started with a sketch of the design of this character and decided that he needs suit that is designed to maintain the miniature state.

And these are some guys who couldn't deshrink and become normal size. So they organized own town around a backpack.

The character on the left is a secret corporation agent that is hunting us. In the center and on the right are the guys who has been shrunk, but could not become normal size again, they are the victims of an unsuccessful corporation experiment. They have adapted to a new way of living, creating different tools out of thing they have found around.

According to the story, the suit is designed to maintain the miniature size of its owner. But it could work for limited time. So the main character has only a few hours to get to his goal.

These are levels, sketches of ideas, different mechanics, different types of levels. We were just fantasizing. We had a brainstorm about what could happen in the game and how to diversify the gameplay.

At first, we made this first option, and we liked it in general, but it was not detailed. So we made another attempt and added details, and now it looks much more fun.

Spine animation tests.

And these are some level objects. We decided to choose ice because we liked the material itself, the surface of this object, and it would be fun to interact with it. But we haven’t decided what functions it could have.

For our animators, the funniest part of this small project was experimenting with logo animation. Moving such cool designs is always fun.
