ILL 201.7 | Creating Expressive images: Smoke and Mirrors
Project brief:
For this project we were required to do research on myths around the world and choose one to develop into a three-part epic. The chosen myth will then be divided into three parts to act as a trilogy, meaning three different distinct cover designs that need to encompass the part of the myth that they represent. Each cover relied on a mainly illustrative approach,and although all three designs should be unique they should also read ass one coherent whole.

Design strategy:
The myth of van hunks and the devil is the one I ended up choosing, mainly because of the bizarre nature of the myth and the underlying message of knowing the importance of when to be humble and when to accept a challenge. The myth references the devil often, in the act of smoking some unknown substance that makes you ill and in the characteristics of the characters themselves. Van Hunks created his own downfall by accepting a challenge in order to keep his pride and reputation in tact. The variety of references meant there were a plethora of illustrative imagery available to visually communicate the myth accurately. The myth was divided into three parts and so the first book
