Chapter IV: A New Aesthetic

(VO: Written)
A long time ago in a galaxy far far away...

Episode IV: A new aesthetic.

It is a dark day for the rebels.  The Jedi, led by James Bridle have begun gathering evidence of a new aesthetic...one in which the digital and the physical merge, threatening to rewire our brains and warp the very fabric of our reality.

Another small group led by Justin Hodgson struggles to make sense of this before the empire uses the new aesthetic to rule the galaxy through mediated experiences that they control.

Meanwhile, Darth Vader - the ultimate post-Human - scours the galaxy wreaking havoc with his part-planet part-machine “Death Star”. Can the rebels defeat Lord Vader without themselves embracing the very thing they wish to fight?  In doing so, they too risk their souls...

In the deathstar, the admiral - challenges the power of the new aesthetic despite being surrounded by human machine interface.

Admiral:   “Don’t try to frighten us with your sorcerer’s way Vader. Your sad devotion has not helped you conjure up the stolen data tapes, or given you clairvoyance enough to find the rebels’ hidden fortress “

Vader: “I find your lack of faith disturbing.”

Admiral “gaaaaaaahh”

Grand Admiral “Enough of this. Vader, release him!”

Vader:  “As you wish”

Grand  Admiral:  “This bickering is pointless.”

Pointless indeed. But worth a post.

Vader: “This will be a day long remembered”

In the process of fighting Vader, Luke depends on myriad technology, and finds that he has become a part of the post-digital world.

Luke finally recognizes the need to master rather than be controlled by mediated experiences.  While he lives in a world with technology, he chooses to stay human rather than post-human as part of the new aesthetic.

(Video cut:)
Obi Wan: “Let go luke. Luke Trust me.”
Off camera: Luke you switched off your targeting commuter,  what’s wrong?”
Luke: “Nothing, I’m all right”

The galaxy celebrates this decision. Perhaps there is a new hope.

“Cyberspace is colonising what we used to think of as the real world. I think that our grandchildren will probably regard the distinction we make between what we call the real world and what they think of as simply the world as the quaintest and most incomprehensible thing about us. - William Gibson."
