Project overview:

Information visualisation is the act of collecting facts, data, ideas, subjects, issues, statistics and questions on a subject and succinctly distilling and representing this information in an engaging, interesting, entertaining and accessible way. Working in pairs: research, conceptualise, script, storyboard, design and animate a 40-180 second ‘Vox/Kurzgesagt-esque’ infomotion relating to the theme for the ‘I’ve always wondered’, situating the subject within a South African context.

Design strategy:

Inspired by the wildly successful infomotion page Kurzgesagt, we conceptualised, storyboarded, and animated a three minute video exploring Reality Shifting, one of the fastest growing TickTok trends of 2021. Could practicing certain meditation techniques before bed combined with specific sleeping positions shift your reality? Anyone can shift their consciousness from their current reality to their desired reality such as Hogwarts, Game of Thrones and even Anime universes, endless worlds are up for grabs! We delve into what Reality Shifting entails and where exactly it could stem from, possibly revealing sources that could back up their wild claims.

The overall tone is sarcastic and humorous but leaning more towards. informative once valid sources are incorporated into these wild claims. Combining footage of real individuals with vector illustrations, the infomotion drives the notion of being able to shift through multiple realities. A colour palette of purples and pinks are chosen to embody a fantastical and magical first half of the animation, however once scientific backing is brought up, the tone transitions into a serious atmosphere, a selection of blues and greens are chosen to embody this.
