The following paper plane series explores mosque architecture worldwide over time. To transpose this project into the origami style, I relied on clean shapes and colours to complement the angular characters of the plane whilst still maintaining the architectural highlights of these mosques.
In this series I explored and researched different architectures and illustration styles. It was apparent that each architectural piece had influence from the place and culture it was built in. To make sure the series is cohesive, similar elements such as the landscape layering are included in each plane design.
Qolsharif Mosque - Kazan, Russia (1760s)
Great Mosque of Xi'an - Shaanxi, China (742 AD)
Maree Mosque -  South Australia, Australia
This project was one of my first few projects with illustrator. Techniques such as block shading over gradient that works well in certain style such as these to keep a minimal look. Combining these with subtle textures can add further depth which otherwise might be hidden in through gradient shading.
