I was asked to design a landing page for the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce (GRCC) to promote their Titans of the Toll Road event, which featured speakers from Google, Microsoft, and Bechtel. The overall look and feel for the event had already been determined for their printed materials, so my task was to adapt those graphics for the web.
For the landing page, I adjusted the existing hero graphic within the limitations of the Unbounce platform to create natural whitespace in which to place the page menu and the GRCC logo. Since we needed the page to be responsive, we couldn't fade out portions of the hero graphic like we did on the printed materials. My solution was to expand upon an element we used in the printed materials—a very small yellow box in the corner of their flyer—and use it as a clean border around areas of interest near the hero graphic. The resulting layout is eye-catching, well-organized, and easy to read.​​​​​​​
The landing page was wildly successful, with an unheard-of 43.02% conversion rate. The industry standard conversion rate for events like this is 4.6%. GRCC could not have been happier with our design, and the CEO of Communicate by Design-X was thrilled by the amount of engagement we got on our own LinkedIn page.
