Gilding behind the Buddha statue is the ancient Thai idiom that means doing good deeds doesn't need to boast of anyone, or let them know our success, Doing a good thing and leading the happiness to our mind is the perfect reward. However, when we keep closing repeatedly the gold behind the statue, (keep doing a good thing over and over). In the end, the gold will overflow and appear to the front of the statue, then people will know.

Gilding the Buddha image is a long-standing tradition among Thai people who respect and believe in Buddhism, believe that the benefits of gilding will be greatly returned upon death from human life. It is also considered to build faith in the Buddha and help preserve the Buddha image. 

"ปิดทองหลังพระ" เป็นสำนวนไทยโบราณ หมายถึง การทำดีไม่ต้องอวดใคร หรือให้ใครรู้ความสำเร็จของเรา การทำความดีและนำความสุขมาสู่จิตใจเป็นรางวัลที่สมบูรณ์แบบ อย่างไรก็ตามเมื่อเราปิดทองหลังองค์พระซ้ำๆ (ทำดีซ้ำแล้วซ้ำเล่า) สุดท้ายเปลวทองก็จะล้นมาปรากฏหน้าองค์พระแล้วคนอื่นจะรู้เอง 

ปิดทององค์พระเป็นประเพณีที่มีมาอย่างยาวนานของชาวไทยที่นับถือและศรัทธาในพระพุทธศาสนา เชื่อว่าการปิดทองจะทำให้ได้รับอานิสงส์อย่างมากเมื่อตายจากชีวิตมนุษย์ และยังถือเป็นการสร้างพลังศรัทธาในพระพุทธศาสนา ช่วยรักษาพระพุทธรูปทางหนึ่งอีกด้วย
