New, Modern - Library Tomorrow
NEW MODERN LIBRARY | CPH

How can a “visit” to the library look like in future.
As we live in times of rapid and continuous change it is hard to predict what kinds of building are needed for information exchange in future.
Is there really a need for built environments. This concept tries to figure out the main goals of libraries in the next age. A new expression comes into play: Edutainment.
The New Modern Library of Copenhagen should be considered as adaptive space where unusual synergies and cooperation can take place.
PROGRAM
To evaluate the program of a library in the 21st century, it is important to consider current discussions about media consumption. It is quite clear that attractiveness and entertainment must play a much greater role in "Library 3.0" than they have in the past. This project provides four general ideas for defining space. Performative space, meeting space, learning space, and inspirational space.
This leads to the rest of the program, which always refers to these macro categories. With these definitions, we are able to determine future activities in the library. With different users, hours of use and different media, there is a wide variety of actions that will take place. To interpret these, we started to classify them into four general terms:
Immerse, Discover, Experience, and Collaborate.
CIRCULATION SYSTEM
The system of program evaluation is applied to the project. In contrast to the expected vertical arrangement of the 4 space definitions, we decided to arrange the program horizontally. This allows the user to experience the library in a variety of ways. The main circulation desk is located in the southern part of the building.
Due to the high user frequency and to guarantee short distances to all areas of the new modern library, multible stairs are installed.
The Soul of the library is the Data it contains.
The way of information exchange has no predefined format and can take place in very different places through very different media and actions.
The conventional book shelf still has its right to exist but it is important to provide a lot more possibilities to access information.
