Let's talk about eating disorders

Let’s talk about eating disorders is an educational card collection with guidance on communicating with people experiencing an eating disorder. It aims to educate the general public about the topic without overwhelming them with numerous links. The cards also provide a way to begin discussion about the topic without pointing fingers at the support network or requiring the individual to speak up about their experience when they’re not ready.

The collection educates the community about eating disorder symptoms, addresses myths and informs users about the impact of eating disorders in Australia. The stereotypes and myths are framed as true or false questions, which include:

-        Eating disorders only impact adolescent females
-        Eating disorders are a lifestyle choice
-        Hospitalisation proves the eating disorder is serious
-        Everyone who has an eating disorder wants to recover
-        Weight restoration is the key to recovery
-        People living with an eating disorder lack common sense
There are three types of cards included in the collection:
- True or false cards which inform users of the impacts in Australia
- Scenario based questions to build empathy and provide guidance on how to approach sensitive situations
- Wildcards to direct users to helpful resources

Each card lists the reference in the bottom right corner and these sources can be accessed with the QR code at the bottom of the box.
