About a year ago, I had an exchange with Calice Becker (a client, a friend and a world renowned perfumer) about the long term impact of smell loss related to the #Covid-19 pandemic. We both had close relations affected by what we now call the “long covid”. Their disturbed sense of smell seemed to impact their eating habits, odor preferences, sometimes even their mood and memory. Calice being part of Givaudan, a Flavor and Fragrances industrial, and I, being a design and user experience Leader at onepoint, we decided to join our two companies in a collaborative effort to find a solution to this growing problem.

But, we needed medical expertise! With the help of Muriel Touaty and Julien Soyer we managed to get in contact with medical experts and researchers from Université Côte d'Azur and Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Nice (CHU de Nice) who had been working on smell re-education since a long time already. Together, in the following months, we invented a new smell re-education method named “Ma Madeleine”, combining a kit of 12 specifically developed smells with a Web Application. This will allow the patient to do his re-education from home while enabling the doctor to follow the progress remotely. The project is now entering its clinical trial and I am very excited to finally share this beautiful collaboration with the world!
