Symphasis_Simultaneous Appearances, 2000
Location: traveling exhibition.
Medium: Time-based Installation with Sound, DVD digital projections, TV monitor, speakers, 2 plexiglass screens laminated with glass tinting full mirror finish
Loop sound: Raul Rothblatt
Dimensions: 8 x 6 ft each.
Description: Playing with the blurring line of what is real or illusory, SYMPHASIS questions the viewer’s recognition of space by transgressing the physical boundaries of a contained place,
that is the gallery, and into one that is purely imaginary—yet still contained—an aquarium. It melds space and time (both real and recorded) by projecting images of aquatic life into mirrored screens.
It appears as if we are circulating in a defined and controlled "life aquarium '' unaware that our independent actions are bounded and circumscribed.
