NEON LIGHTS
The quote is from the 2014 action movie Kingsman: Secret Service
I made this animation as an experiment for the flashing lights for the sign I want to include in my final piece of work. I felt the neon lighting was a fun way to play around with trying to make this animation and I was right because after I was done I felt it looked really cool and also doing this made me confident enough in making a flashing light animation.
After outlining the words in the font and colour I wanted, I downloaded pictures of the main feature props that appear in the movie which is the bullet and the umbrella. I outlined the downloaded images using the pen tool in Adobe Illustrator for an accurate outline of the different shapes. I chose the colours red and yellow because they would have a greater contrast with the dark background thus allowing the words to appear brighter and more eye-catching. I also used the cracked wall as the background because it helps convey the type and level of destruction that occurred in the movie. The background and words were then imported to Adobe Photoshop so that I could add effects to the objects.

I duplicated all my worded layers and then merged it into one to allow me add effects to remove the colour of the words without it completely disappearing this helped it to resemble non-lit light tubes like an actual neon light sign.
Then I added some like inner glow, drop shadow and outer glows to the original layers to make the words glow; again like a real-life neon sign.
Lastly, I added an animated time frame and edited layers, so that individual elements would turn on and turn off during the animation, so that the desired effect was the result.
My inspiration for the project, was the animation on the left, which is a quote from the 1987 movie lethal weapon which 2 of its elements go on and off very quickly to give it a kind of flicker effect which is what I aimed so, the 'man' brightened with every flicker.
When I saw the animation I felt like it was a very creative and effective way for me to create work to help me gain the skills for the flashing light effect I want to add into my final outcome.
