Is a series of textiles crafted by Alexis Sanal generated from the unique qualities of Istanbul. Each textile has a story of a place in the city while the vectoral patterns and colors are crafted to express the atmosphere of the place. Specifically each textile began as a photograph of Istanbul from above and then is crafted through digital scripting for color and pattern. The work began in 2010 with the design of SALT Research site visit when viewing the extraordinary view from now SALT Galata entry level – Persembe Pazari and The Kuliye are featured and especially designed for the original upholstery at SALT.
Perşembe Pazarı Fabric (Thursday Market Fabric)
LOOK down from the window of SALT Galata and you will see the terracotta roof tops that the upholstery captures. These rooftops are ubiquitous in the city and can possibly represent the largest single surface material used in the city. Their familiarity and timelessness are kind to the eye.
