Warsaw School of Economics revitalization

MOKOTOW GATE | WARSAW SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS REVITALISATION
The Campus, for both: students and all the inhabitants of Warsaw, is a special place - the point of the indicative scale of the city, an iconic symbol of Mokotów district. For this reason, it was crucial to maintain original, axial assumption of the campus, and strongly emphasize the monumental character of the university. Symmetrical and dynamic form of the tribunes located in front of the Main Building marks its presence with the characteristic shape of the arms flanking the front elevation and designating the parade square, which is a forum of urban activity. These arms - especially after dark, when the entire form is uniformly illuminated from within, create a unique symbol of exceeding the "gateway" to Mokotów district. An intriguing small pyramid in the center will be a landmark of this square - its translucency indicates the presence of "urban life" below the ground.
The potential of space in front of and behind the Main Building lies in the possibility of using both: above-ground and underground space, and its connections. To discover those spaces users should follow a specially designed floor, which not only highlights the main squares where lots of people gather, but above all, discreetly and effectively leads participants to new places. Therefore, the tips are indicated by one-way lanes, which combined with others perpendicularly, form a uniform grid defining the "islands" of activity. The order of their formation has been structured on the principle of accessibility: public, semi-public and private.
