YOU - Projected Typography

Who are YOU? Is identity a singular whole, or made of many fragmented pieces? How much of yourself is truly YOU, and how much is a reflection of your circles or cultures? Does who you are resonate, warp and shift due to external forces? How do YOU react to the energies of others? Who are YOU?

A visual musing on identity made with refraction of light through laser cut type, submerged in water.

Behind the Scenes
The animated typography was created by projecting light down through prisms and laser cut letters submerged in water.

The light source was a hacked camping headlamp with white and red LEDs, and the different modes of the headlamp contributed to the different visual styles of the video.

The text was created by laser cutting the type stencil from acrylic with a Glowforge. It was then covered with water, which could me manipulated to create analog wave, distressed, or cymatic effects.

Finally, crystal glass prisms were hand held in the projected light to refract the light in a variety of creative patterns.
