Lucie et les Lucioles ⭐ Re-Illustration exercise

In this first spread, Lucie discovers the forest. She's curious and eager to learn. She then goes through worry and finally fear as the time goes by and the dark settles in.
This summer, thinking about leaving my studies for art, I gave myself a creative challenge. I re-illustrated a couple of spreads from the, already published, children's book "Lucie et les Lucioles" by Arnaud Moine and Mayalen Goust (ed. Chocolat ! jeunesse, 2009)...

A brief outline of the story
Lucie has a goal: the top of the nearby mountain. However, to reach it, she must face her fear of the forest, of the night. This book is the story of Lucie's journey, full of softness and poetry, in chiaroscuro.
My main constraint were to avoid black and to try a new coloring process.

A few weeks later, I decided to create a dummy of the book cover to prepare the publication of an article on my, soon to be released, website. I had several options : focusing on the girl, focusing on the fireflies and focusing on the journey. But as I chose to illustrate 3 spreads in the forest, I found it appropriate to focus on the path.
Thank you so much for reading my first ever project on Behance. I can't wait to play more with this tool. Until the publication of my website, I invite you to go and see my Instagram. See you soon !
