HALO

Halo is a water bottle that facilitates the idea of sharing water with anyone, the design also ensures safe filling/ refilling of water from public water dispensers, amidst a pandemic. The name Halo accentuates circular quartz glass design which helps in disinfection.
The cap consists of 2 features, primarily to disinfect the neck of the bottle and secondly to disinfect water within (similar to other UVC bottles in the market). For this, Halo uses a total of 4 UVC LEDs. 3 UVC LEDs of 1mW each for Neck disinfection and a single UVC LED of 12mW for water disinfection.

The project kicked off with the main focus on solving the issue of sharing the water bottle and the concerns of infections by doing so. Research showed that the bottleneck possessed a higher risk of infections because while refilling the bottle the users bring the bottleneck so close to the water spout and touch the bottleneck for the ease of holding and refilling. This increases the chances of exposure to infectious pathogens.

The bottleneck disinfection is done using 3 UVC LEDs each having an intensity of 1mW and wavelength of 280 nm placed above a quarts glass which is designed such that the light rays get refracted to the interior and exterior parts of the bottleneck.

The 280 nm 12 mW UVC placed at the bottom of the cap helps in disinfecting the water. The closing lid consists of a silicone washer to avoid the leakage.
