Pirogov Children's Ward
After completing our previous project for Pirogov Hospital we were commissioned again, for the makeover of another floor in the Children’s ward. It was for kids with infectious diseases, ages 0-18, so the theme and style had to be universal.
Our task was to brighten up 5 rooms along with the corridors of the ward. This included us making about 30 illustrations, as well as applying the already developed way-finding system.
We chose Dinosaurs and the Prehistoric world since they allow for an abundance of mind-blowing creatures and flora which used to inhabit the Earth. What we did learn, to our surprise, is that very little is certain about the actual appearance of dinosaurs. We used this to our full advantage taking ample creative freedom and making them vibrant, friendly and captivating.
Since most kids stay in the ward for extended periods of time, we wanted to enrich their experience. Instead of just developing nice, colorful illustrations, we took a step further by adding engaging fun facts, comparison graphics and a short bio for each species. Our friends at Studio Komplekt helped us turn the dry information into lively, entertaining and kid-friendly texts. The short bio for each species is presented as if the Dinosaur itself has written it. The ultimate goal was to distract kids and their parents from their current worries while simultaneously awakening their curiosity and helping them learn something new.
Two large infographics frame the topic “Prehistoric Era” in the waiting areas of the ward, where people usually have to pass more time. One tackles the variety of species - omnivores, carnivores, herbivores, aquatic creatures and flying dinosaurs. The other one puts some of the most magnificent dinosaurs in the corresponding eras when they roamed our lands.
We also integrated the dinosaur topic into useful elements for the working staff, like illustrated height meters.
