The Tokyo Metropolitan Government building is the worlds tallest city hall and one of the highest landmarks in Japan. The momumental cityscraper, often referred to as as Tochō (都庁), measures a total of 242 metres in height and splits into two towers at the top.

On the 45th floor of each tower is a panoramic observation deck available to the public.

It is hard to describe what I felt when I stood on that observation deck.
I knew that Tokyo was big, but the sheer dimensions of the world's biggest city only become visible if you look at it from above. I was mesmerized.

An unbelievable feeling of fascination came over me. You can see thousands of skyscrapers, right up to the edge of the horizon.
From that moment, the city felt different.

The following photographs have been all captured from this location.

The entry to the viewing platform is free of charge. I highly recommend it to everyone visiting Tokyo. If you plan on taking a camera with you, I recommend that you bring a silicone lens skirt, which helps you to eliminate reflections when shooting through windows.
