Nike Flight | Hi-Vis Premier League Match Ball 2021/22

This is the Official Hi-vis Match Ball of the Premier League of the 2021/22 season. The ball itself boasts the new Nike Aerowsculpt technology, which is a patented deboss design that gives it a 30% more consistent flight path.

From a graphic perspective, no panel is the same, yet they are all connected across the seams by organic generative lines found almost everywhere in nature on a micro and macro level. This illustrates the idea that the Premier League grows connections between different people from all over the world and unites us through the power of football.

This hi-vis version of the original graphic is inspired by footballers who are heroes on and off the pitch. It brings the bright/punchy aesthetic of superhero comics to the winter matches this season.

A little personal backstory behind the design of this hi-vis Premier League ball:

This was the first ball I designed entirely in quarantine. It was right at the beginning of the pandemic when things felt hopeless. I was struggling to find positivity in a world torn apart by a deadly virus, racial protests, and raging wildfires. I saw the Premier League as a positive constant that brought me a spark of happiness each week. The players felt like superheroes coming to rescue my mind from an otherwise dark headspace. Even if it was just for 90 minutes. It helped me immensely and I’m sure there’s others out there that feel the same. So this year’s hi-vis ball is paying homage to the football players that became the superheroes we needed at a time when we needed them the most.
