Being mindful of the passage of time lets us keep tabs on our emotional states, preventing us from getting overwhelmed and thus harming our mental and psychological well-being.

That's why the simple gesture of taking the time to unwind can be a very powerful way of avoiding getting mentally burnt out. That doesn't necessarily mean stopping everything we're doing. Rather, it requires paying attention to the present moment, to the world surrounding us, to our thoughts and feelings acknowledging what's going on inside and outside ourselves. It's a way of being consciously present in what we're doing, while we're doing it. It keeps us grounded, less prone of living our daily moments in autopilot mode, and ultimately, improving our productivity all along.

A DEVICE FOR MINDFUL PRODUCTIVITY

Inspired by scented candles, which can brighten up home decor as well as the frame of mind, Focus intends to bring the same functional values albeit in a more controllable fashion.

This candle-like aroma diffusing mood lamp, aims to relieve stress and improve productivity through the combination of Aromatherapy and the practice of the Pomodoro Technique. Aside from providing illumination, its timer functionality reminds the user of the passage of time by dimming the light source once near the end of the "Focus Session", at the end of which the aroma diffuser will emanate a scent (just like a candle going out) signaling to take a break. To shuffle between different functions, Focus uses a control ring mechanism similar to the focus rings found on camera lenses, for a tactile and intuitive product-user experience.
