History of Commemoration Day of King’s Father
Norodom Sihanouk was born in Phnom Penh on October 31st 1922. He became the King of Cambodia in 1941 after the death of his grandfather.
From 1941 he was head of state of Cambodia several times as it changed its name and status.
Sihanouk died from a heart attack in Beijing, China, on October 15th 2012.

He became King on 14 October 2004, a week after the abdication of his father, Norodom Sihanouk.[1] He is the eldest son of King Sihanouk and Queen Norodom Monineath and was Cambodia's ambassador to UNESCO, prior to his selection by a nine-member throne council to become the next king. Before ascending to the throne, Sihamoni was educated in Czechoslovakia and was best known for his work as a cultural ambassador in Europe and as a classical dance instructor.

She is the widow of King-Father Norodom Sihanouk, whom she married in 1955 as the "secondary consort" (Sihanouk married his official wife, Norodom Thavet Norleak, as the "first lady" also in 1955, before married to Monineath). After Sihanouk and Norleak divorced in 1968, Monineath became the official spouse of the King.

The day is a time when many Cambodians pay their respects to deceased relatives of up to 7 generations.[4] Monks chant the suttas in Pali language overnight (continuously, without sleeping) in prelude to the gates of hell opening, an event that is presumed to occur once a year, and is linked to the cosmology of King Yama originating in the Pali Canon. During this period, the gates of hell are opened and manes (spirits) of the ancestors are presumed to be especially active. In order to combat this, food-offerings are made to benefit them, some of them having the opportunity to end their period of purgation, whereas others are imagined to leave hell temporarily, to then return to endure more suffering; without much explanation, relatives who are not in hell (who are in heaven or otherwise reincarnated) are also generally imagined to benefit from the ceremonies.

Cambodia Independence Day 2021 - 68th anniversary
On this day in 1953, Cambodia became a sovereign nation, restoring the identity of the Indigenous Khmer people and upholding the nation’s ancient history. Celebrated annually as Independence Day, this historic anniversary is now a holiday.
The Cambodian government honored this declaration of autonomy in 1958 with the construction of a lotus-shaped stupa in the capital of Phnom Penh. Coined the Independence Monument, this 20-meter high tower resembles the iconic 12th-century Khmer temple complex of Angkor Wat, which is emblazoned on the Cambodian flag depicted in the Doodle artwork.
Traditionally, today’s formal ceremonies begin at the base of the Independence Monument followed by parades, marching bands, and fireworks over the banks of the Mekong River. Typical cuisine of rice, fish sauce, chili peppers, coconut, and lemongrass is served across the Southeast Asian nation as citizens reflect on the historical path to freedom.
Happy Independence Day, Cambodia!

Cambodian Water Festival (Bon Om Touk)
Cambodian Water Festival was first celebrated in the 12th century, around the time of Angkorian King Jayavarman VII. The King’s Navy helped usher in the Cambodian fishing season. The festivities made the gods happy and secured good harvests of rice and fish in the upcoming year.
Another story is that Bon Om Touk was a way for the King to prepare his navy for battle. There are carvings at Bayon Temple, at Banteay Chmear that show naval battles similar to the boat races in present-day celebrations.
