PR02 Poster Project

The clientele involved for this assignment was Sally Hanson. Their mission was to host and provide a way to cultivate and gather like minded individuals within the beauty and makeup world by use of a convention. This combines specific networks within the beauty industry such as nail polish, makeup, hair, and skin care branches. The target audience for such an event are primarily women and girls from the age groups of teen to adulthood who use beauty supplies almost daily.
The design challenge of this event was to create a poster that captivates the essence of what Sally Hanson is promoting and informs the viewers sufficiently on information of the event so they are to attend. Therefore, project goals were centered on the poster for the Glam Shine event to be noteworthy in terms of attributes relating to what Sally Henson advertises and promotes, while also leaving sufficient enough information for the attendees.
Involving the final design, what led up to its appearance was essentially organization and qualities that Sally Hanson publicizes on. Those being makeup and colors. To reach the design goals of Sally Hanson, those attributes were taken into account. Since the Glam Shine convention is an event about cosmetics, the featuring of lipstick paint smears within the background is an attraction made to our target audience to imply the topic of this event before they even read it. That also goes the same for the naming of the event itself. The word glam and shine combine harmoniously because they both relate back to the concept of beauty. Furthermore, in color, warm oranges and yellows were persistent in order to be bright and playful to the eye. Not only is it consistent all around the board, but the use of white and black allow the colors to be viewable at the forefront of the poster. Even more so, the layout of the poster is an intended effect. Legibility and readability were crucial factors into Sally Hanson’s designing process. To do so, the title had to be the biggest text and in the center focal point of the poster design. Information pertaining to the title of the convention such as time, location, and date are positioned right below it for easy readability. In order for guests to know about featured speakers at Glam Shine, they are put at the very top, followed by large text labeling the date and time of each speaker. Not to mention all information is organized from left to right and top to bottom in the typeface font of Roboto. Roboto was chosen because there are multiple varieties of font styles when in use of the entire roboto family. Furthermore it has a very clear and lightweight style perfect for the aesthetic of the poster design. All of these variables were crucial to Sally Hanson’s final design and communicative solution.
