"Under the skin" is a cycle of works about the collaboration of two authors, the process of connecting their different approaches and intertwining opposing media (painting and embroidery) into a new artistic whole. It is also about the female heritage, that is, so to say, under our skin.
In this cycle, we set the female body and female heritage as the central theme of the research. We critically approach the mainstream view of the body and corporeality as something exclusively pragmatic, whether in a physiological, biological, or aesthetic sense. Our work aims to present the (female) body as a specific, sensory, personal territory, and not as an object or product of investing time, money, physical effort, etc. Motifs in the paintings from the cycle 'Under the skin' are enlarged body details, wrinkles, pores, veins. On the painted canvases, metaphorically on the tissue, the skin, embroidered are the scenes from an everyday 'game' between spouses: struggles for a fair distribution of household chores and against traditionally imposed gender roles, which, like traps, lurk around every corner of the household.
