Magazine analysis
The magazine I have to analyse is The Times Magazine. I have selected two magazines, first one being an interview with the footballer Kalvin Phillips and the second being about Olympian Adam Peaty.

Kalvin Phillips
The article on Kalvin Phillips is one page long with a image of Phillips on the right side of the page and a transcript of the interview on the left.

In the article Phillips talks about quite personal topics. He talks about his impoverished background and his race, how his girlfriend and his mother help him in various ways, the loss of his sister and gran, and the lack of support from his dad. But he also talks about his job, specifically the Euros and England. He was a big part of England's run to the final and for most people in the country and around the world who don't regularly watch English football the Euros during the summer was his emergence into the limelight, which is why the Telegraph Magazine would feature an article of him as he is topical.

The image is a full body image of Phillips, who is in his England football kit. He is side on, with his left exposed to the camera, and his face is turned towards the camera. In the image he is posing, with his left leg on a football. The background is red with a slight pattern in the top left and blueish paint splattered the edges of the image. His tattoo sleeve on his left arm can be clearly seen, this shows a bit of Phillips's personal side.

The image has clearly been taken in a studio. There is a dim blueish light shining on the back of him but the rest of Phillips is well lit. I believe the image has been taken from the Euro 2020 promotion campaign as the background is very similar to ones used during the Euros by UEFA and England. The England kit he is wearing is the kit England used during the Euros, and the football is also the official tournament football of Euro 2020. Using an image from the Euros for the article makes some sense as the Euros was a massive topic across the country this summer and Phillips played a massive role in that. He also talks a bit about the England and the Euros in the article, and of course football is his job so it is showing the reader what he does. Using an image of him in a England kit might also catch my people's attention then if he was in his Leeds kit as only a select amount of people support Leeds where as England national team got the backing of most of the country this summer.

That all said, the article is actually quite personal which is a bit of a contrast to the image. The original image was done for commercial purposes so gives that feel. Perhaps an image of Phillips with his family celebrating one of his performances at the Euros would have been a better pick, as it would fit with the personal elements of the article and the football related parts.
Adam Peaty
Adam Peaty is one of the most successful British Olympians and the greatest ever swimmer in the discipline he competes at. He is appearing on this years Strictly Come Dancing. This article is 5 pages long, and covers all aspects of Peaty's life (his swimming, his relationships and upbringing, and Strictly).

It opens with a double speed with three different images, both done in a studio with a plain dark background. These images are a good opener, as they are large and catch the readers attention and they also are a good introduction to the reader. The two right images show him topless in a swimming pose whilst looking serious which eludes to what he usually he does and his professional manner and also shows off his tattoos which is also what Peaty is known for. The left image is very model like, perhaps a bit showbiz. In this image he has a smart unbuttoned shirt on and smart trousers and he is sitting on a stall. This goes well with his new adventure on TV which is Strictly.
The next page has three images of him performing on the first week's episode of Strictly. All three images are action shots of him dancing, the images show off his competitive and serious nature but also how much he has enjoyed being on the show so far.
The second to last page again has three images and shows three sides of him. The first image taken at the Olympics is of him posing to the world's press this shows his confident nature. The second image is of Peaty in the pool just after a race, in this image he is roaring and beating the pool water with his hand, which shows how serious, competitive and passionate he is about his swimming. The third image shows him with his very young family, Peaty is in his Team GB Olympic gear with some of his medals around his neck, this image tells a lot about him. It shows the reader what he has done and achieved so far in his life and is the most personal image go him in the whole article.
The final page just has one image. The image is again of Peaty but this time in gym gear, his big arms folded. This image is an advertisement, Peaty is a brand ambassador for Castore and in the image he is wearing Castore merchandise.
