URBAN GREEN SPACE - Round about Expo Center (Proposed)
Lahore has seen rapid commercialization in past few years, partly owing to emergence of the malls and shopping hubs. The Emporium Mall is one such area which is visited by a large number of people on any day of the week. The mall is surrounded by an under-construction Sports Complex and Hilton Hotel.
Though arguably one of the most coveted and most often visited places in Lahore, the vicinity of the mall has witnessed under construction areas and junk places for a long time. It has been as if the inside and outside of the mall are two completely different worlds, separated by the boundary of the mall.
Working for the Lahore Development Authority, we designed a public space in the vicinity of the mall. The idea is to create a space that is green, ecofriendly ad is domiciled by the local flora and this paves the way for local fauna. The place is going to be still sharply different from the inside of the mall in the way that it will be free of the commercial buzz and would offer serenity and calm of green space in the concrete jungle that Lahore is becoming. This public space which will be developed on a roundabout, will have an amphitheater to encourage street arts and to provide a space for people to hangout.
