UMA is the case handling system used by the Finnish Immigration Service (Migri) to decide on applications for EU registration, a residence permit, citizenship and asylum in Finland.
During 1 year in Migri i was in charge of maintaining and expanding the design system for the web-based UMA application as well as advising functional designers when creating new or updated functionality.
I also initiated (and partly executed) a set of six user insight sprints, where we observed current usage practices for different application types. Together with the case workers and UMA specialists, we then suggested more efficient ways of working and provided material for training the staff in these.
