The serpent has spent what seems like an eternity living between the same rocks, sand dunes, and sea trees. The larger it grew, the smaller the ocean felt. The larger it grew, the clearer the shadows at the edge of the ocean became. The shadows grew with the serpent and appeared from every direction. No matter which way it swam, the shadows would appear to confront it eventually.
