Illusions was my first introduction to typesetting a large amount of text. I took an excerpt of Richard Bach’s Illusions: The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah, a book about a man who meets a former mechanic, who teaches him the ways of being a messiah. The book is written in a journalistic format, with descriptions of the plot, along with excerpts from the messiah’s own notes. I wanted to play on the journal theme, and designed the book to mimic a small field notes journal. The type is set in Bookman Old Style, and printed on a light weight cream colored paper, intending to give it an antique, well-used feeling.
