Shelter from the Flames
With little to now warning, thousands fled their homes as lightning struck...igniting numerous devastating fires across California. Over 11,000 lightning strikes are to blame for some of the largest outbreaks of fires in history. One of those is the CZU Lightning Complex Fire where over 115 structures have been destroyed and over 67,000 acres have been devastated. Approximately 77,000 people were ordered to evacuate their homes and seek refuge at one of the many evacuation centers, including the Soquel Conference Center where they received shelter, food, clothing, and many other necessities. Many lost everything they had. These are some of their stories.
