«Tell us a fable, Granny»

These are stories about the adventures of two little sisters. They help a little lizard, meet an ice creature from a cave, dance a wild song. They find themselves in different situations, but sisters’ love, friendship and help to each other make their journey successful and very interesting. These are cozy stories about the friendship for little adventurers and their grannies.
The main characters of the book
Characters

I’ve created two characters of two sisters. The first one, older sister is Tasya. She is calm, thoughtful, balanced and empathetic, she reads a lot, likes to draw, and she doesn’t drop her work, always does it until the end. The second one, younger sister is Mariyushka. She is energetic, strong, artistic, self-willed, brave, but if something goes wrong, she knows that she can ask her sister for help and advice.
Minor characters of the book
full-page illustrations
I’ve drawn thirteen full-page illustrations - one illustration for each story, except one story about chess. For this story I’ve drawn two full-page illustrations. All illustrations are monochromatic, I’ve drawn them on my tablet in Adobe Photoshop.
Small illustrations
Each story begins and ends from a small illustration, so I’ve drawn twenty six small illustrations in the same style as the full-page illustrations.
Steps of design
1. Storyboard
Before starting I’ve made a storyboard. This step is absolutely necessary for understanding all scope of work as for me as for the author, thereby we made a sort of the «map» that we went on all the time of work during the project.
2. Sketches of each illustration
Before drawing each illustration, I’ve drawn its sketches and coordinated them with the author.
3. Layout
After drawing all the illustrations then I’ve made the layout of a block of the book.
4. Sketch of the cover
In this step I’ve drawn the sketches of the cover and selected the fonts.
5. The cover in different colors
I’ve made the cover in different colors and variations and the author chose the fifth one.
6. Preparing to print
The final step was preparation for printing. I’ve made all the illustrations monochromatic, and then I’ve prepared a layout for printing in Adobe Indesign. I’ve collected all the files in one folder and sent them to the author so that the author can easily send them to the publisher.
