Forever Possessed

At most inconvenient of times, the hair, much like Mr.Hyde, often takes on a personality much larger than its master tormenting not only by suddenly inflicting unpredictable physical pain but also through paralyzing feelings of helplessness.

Project: Conflict - pick one of three existing conflicts/relationships from classic stories and create an illustration that offers a fresh take on that conflict or relationship; take a well-known idea, concept, or story and view it through a unique lens. Type of conflict: Character versus Self. Instructor - Kaz Windness of Mother Goth Rhymes.

I decided to build off the The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, appropriating the story of demonic possession and suppression of true character towards a very similar and personal struggle; my hair. Everyone dealt an overwhelming hat of hair knows that much like Dr. Jekyll’s failed attempts to contain and manage Mr. Hyde, you never know if you will actually be able to control your hair; trying to balance the reality with expectations and trends is a battle that is often lost, resulting in isolation and despair.
