Jaloff a Wolof tribe of Senegal, in front of Gorée Island, believes in Yumboes, some magical beings which have a correspondence with the Gothic Fairies. Another name for these fairies is «Bakhna Rakna» who means the good people. Yumboes are fairies who live under hills. About two feet tall, they are described as having the translucent skin and the silvery white hair. They go out at night to dance under the moonlight. Of extremely friendly character, they often invite the people who live in the country and the foreigners in their banquets. They often feast around a big table and are surrounded with partially invisible servants whose only hands and feet can be seen. They eat the food which they steal to the human beings, but also the one that they catch themselves. Dresses of Yumboes correspond exactly to those the people who live in the country and they imitate their actions in every detail. They become attached to families which they select and when any of their members dies, Yumboes them to cry and to dance on their graves. The inhabitants believe that Yumboes are souls of their dead friends.
