Working alongside Fielding Nair International, WJA designed this new 65,000 sf PreK-12 school which includes three separate learning communities, administrative offices, cafeteria and a multi-purpose gym/auditorium with flexible stage. The design for the school was guided by three core principles:

1. Utilize the entire site for learning:
a. Create opportunities for students to safely explore and engage the natural world
b. Integrate Indoor and Outdoor Learning Space
c. Space between buildings as important as space inside buildings

2. Reinforce a strong sense of community:
a. Break down the scale of the school into age-appropriate learning communities - each with its own pavilion
b. Provide flexibility through a variety of learning settings for 21st Century Learning
c. Create connections between spaces for seamless movement between activities
d. Social Spaces large and small for gathering and assembly

3. Maintain harmony with nature:
a. Minimize Building footprints
b. Minimize energy use through passive design strategies - daylight, shading, natural ventilation
c. Support the wetlands, and manage stormwater runoff
d. Nurture habitat - small rookery island

To meet these core principles several unique design elements were implemented. The campus is broken down into separate age-appropriate learning communities with a centrally located common area. Large roof overhangs provide shaded exterior circulation and outdoor classroom space. The interior spaces provide flexible space for both large and small gathering spaces embracing 21st century learning principles. Makers spaces like robotics classrooms allow students to engage further in their workspace. The campus also features nature trails, age-appropriate playgrounds, athletic fields, a dock and a farming program.
